• Recognizing the number words “eleven” through “twenty”
• Making and describing equal groups

In Reading Workshop We Learned:

Good Readers…

• Notice the way that the words in poems look, (ex. Bold, italics,)
• Notice the feeling of a poem
• Retell poems across their fingers

In Writing Workshop We Learned:

Good Writers…

• Think of something they have a strong feeling about, and write poems about it
• Use show don’t tell in their poetry, (they show how they feel about a topic, they don’t tell)
• Can give their poems a voice by writing a poem that talks TO their subjects

In Math We Learned About:

• Matching numbers and number words
• Counting backwards
• Combining groups of objects
• Greater than/less than/equal to

In Science We Learned About:

• Characteristics of living and nonliving things
• Needs of plants

We started our poetry unit in reading.

Good Readers:

• Read poems like a song
• Can clap the rhythm of a poem, (by clapping the syllables)

Ted Sheu, the Poetry Guy, is coming on Friday to teach us about poetry!

Things we Learned in Writing Workshop:

• We started our poetry unit in writing as well!

Good Writers:

• Use “Poet’s Eyes” when they are writing…they look at things in a new and different way
• Think about line breaks when they are writing poems

Math:

The students learned about:

• Coins ***Please help your child to practice identifying coins, and their values!!  I will be assessing this on Monday.
• We reviewed the numbers 11 and 12, and started finding combinations of 11 and 12.

Social Studies:

• Students learned about different kinds of shelters, and the materials we use for shelters in different climates.  They looked at similarities and differences of different shelters.

Science:

•  Students learned about animal shelters

• We learned about Earth Day, and ways that we can take care of the earth

• Can use a rubric to make sure that they have included all the parts of an All About book
• Can include a “kinds of” page
• Know when to use capital and lowercase letters
• Can include a glossary in their All About books

Math:

The students learned about:

• Subtraction.  We have practiced writing subtraction sentences, and finding the answers to problems using manipulatives. 

Social Studies:

• Students learned about needs vs. wants

• can include how to’s in their all about books
• make sure their pages are clear and detailed

• To notice details that they didn’t notice before

• Make the last step of their how to’s exciting
